Using data to make better decisions in a complex world is one of the greatest challenges and opportunities of our century. Virginia Tech’s Global Business and Analytics Complex will cement the university as a world leader in developing methods for data analysis and interpretation, and in using data to address problems faced by industry and society.

The complex will include four buildings on the university’s main campus in Blacksburg: two living-learning residential communities and two academic buildings. Together, they will:

  • Bring students and faculty who share a passion for an analytic approach to problems together, in collaborative work environments, for transdisciplinary research and hands-on learning.
  • Enhance the talent pipeline for the business community in the era of big data and the new technology economy, increasing undergraduate enrollment by 2,000 students in computer engineering, software engineering, and related disciplines such as business information technology.

The two proposed residence halls within the Global Business and Analytics Complex will include living-learning communities that supplement and enhance the traditional classroom learning environment. The residence halls will house approximately 700 students. Among the expected residence hall key features are:

  • Entrepreneurship laboratories
  • Shared learning spaces
  • Faculty-in-residence apartmentments

Anchoring the university's Data and Decisions destination area, the Data and Decision Sciences Building will total approximately 120,000 GSF and will offer undergraduate instruction classrooms, large-scale data processing laboratories, student team project spaces, and faculty offices.
